Peter, In addition to sealing the locker lids and adding hasps, I sealed the cabin hatch too, using a sealing material as recommended and described by Connie. In my M-17, I also added about 26 cubic feet of styrofoam under the V berth and back near the transom. Hi Peter,
I added a seal to both my sail locker lids.
Find a closed cell (so that it doesn't absorb water) adhesive backed foam tape about 3/4" wide.
I applied it to the underside of the sail locker lids to make a tight seal when the lids were closed - with a hasp - so they only open when I want them to open.
The foam tape is about 1/4" thick, so it should seal the edge properly. If you still find problems, add a second layer where needed .........
