Bruce, sounds like an exciting day! I can rarely get out on weekdays, and as it turned out I was up in Spokane those dates. Dang! Too often missing the best sailing days! I do remember being out on Folsom one particular day last year with conditions as you described, my single reef tied in--with my wife as crew--and despite her white knuckles, lots of spray across the bow and into the cockpit, and a few choice explicatives, we are still married and going on 20 something years :-) Yes, one of these days you, I and Larry should try and get out at the same lake at the same time and snap some "fleet" pictures. Think about Woodward Reservoir this weekend...it's a Potter Yachter campout weekend and potluck. -Neil ----- Reply message ----- From: "Bruce King" <hillking7@comcast.net> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Subject: M_Boats: Folsom Lake sailing, reply to Larry H. Date: Wed, May 30, 2012 5:28 pm I did sail Folsom Lake, No. CA on 5/17 or 5/18. That morning I saw a forecast for 12-20 MPH winds with gusts to 30 MPH. Arriving about noon, the lake had many power boats enjoying the day. I decided to maximum reef which I had never tried. It worked great on the lake from 1:00-3:00 PM. Only once, due to a brief gust did I do a "round up" with the small sail areas. It was a blast! Of course the winds and white caps cleared the lake of all power boats, so I was the only vessel on the sea! At about 3:00 PM, the wind died back to the about 8-12 and I went to full sail area. The only thing that I missed were some Monty buds. My fault, for short notice. We'll have to plan a day with the local Monty folks! Bruce King Fair Oaks, CA '84 M15
