Dan, My M17 is a 1978, also with the cut out transom. I was hoping that the Honda 2HP would work because of its size and weight. I am happy to hear positive comments from you. The question: Will the Honda 2HP be adequate on an M17? That's Yes - 2 No - 0 On Saturday, May 24, 2003, at 01:01 PM, Dan White wrote:
Bill,
I use a 2 HP Honda 4 stroke on my 1980 M17 (with the cutout in the transom) and find it more than adequate. I have heard some people say that if you are in open water bucking waves and currents that it may not be enough.

Connie, Thank you very much for the information. I am trying to figure out if the Honda 2hp will do an adequate job on my old M 17.
I will count your vote as a yes.

Hi Bill,
No, I am using the 2 HP Honda on my Montgomery 15.
I sold the ComPac 16 years ago. That had the 2 HP Suzuki which was a great engine / boat combination.
At half to 3/4 throttle the Suzuki pushed the ComPac 16 at hull speed - depending on load.
I found the 2 HP Suzuki (or probably any 2 HP outboard) more than enough power for the ComPac.
