Nicely done George! Thanks for the addition to our inspirational modifications pics. I've completed my re-work of the in-the-way traveler setup that came with my M17. A "before" and "after" pic are attached - I have some intermediate pics if anyone is interested in the process but it should be pretty obvious what I did. Before - a four foot wide Harken rail mounted on top of the seats about 7-8 inches back from the front of the cockpit. The upside - a Harken windward sheeting car (if you have to ask, you can't afford it...but it came with the boat...! :-). The downside - can't sit or lounge in any orientation at front of seats, and major impact to ease of getting in and out via the companionway. After - still have the windward $heeting car and about 10" of travel each side of center. A better angle on the traveler control lines than before, from where the helms-person normally sits. Full use of cockpit seats and no obstruction of companionway. Basically, I removed the Harken end pulley units, cut the rail length down to fit the new location, and mounted it on a pair of aluminum standoffs (2" x 3" stock, each piece 8" long), so the car is just below the lower edge of the companionway. Added new attachment points and blocks for the traveler control lines. Have sailed it four times this way since the modification, including anchoring, lounging, going in and out of the cabin. Way, way better. Between before and after pic you can also see that I took out the very large and completely non-functional bulkhead mounted compass that also came with her, and filled the hole with a low profile white cover plate. No more dead compass sticking into the cockpit lounging location or the left side of the person sitting on the settee inside the cabin. cheers, John S. On 07/05/2016 04:02 PM, George Iemmolo wrote:
