It's looking even worse now for the available M-15s. Our usual ad page have seven "Montgomery 15 Wanted" ads and only the '81 in Kanas is available for purchase. This is getting discouraging. But at least this proves I have good taste in small and high quality sailboats. I just can't get exicited about any other type of sailboat. If the adage is true that an owner doesn't choose their boat, but a boat chooses her owner, then I hope your M15 finds you soon. :-) Fair winds, Craig ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hughston, Larry" <Larry.Hughston@dgs.ca.gov> To: "'For and about Montgomery Sailboats'" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, May 21, 2004 10:13 AM Subject: m15 in oregon I thank you for the good info. It had been surveyed (at my expense), but I paid substantially more than the surveyor said the boat was worth: I had been looking for an M17 for months, and the surveyor pegged his estimate to what he found on the MSOG site in one evening. I could only secure the loan on the amount the [in this case] uninformed said it was worth, and, having no cash at the time, borrowed the difference at a higher unsecured rate. I paid less than what the Oregon M15 owner is asking, but not significantly less: And his boat is a '91, and as Scott said, "The '91 has the lead ballast and several other improvements." So I paid insignificantly less for a 7-years-older boat that had the problematic steel-shot ballast, rather than the lead. The boat I bought needed some new hardware and a lot of cosmetic work. Looking at Nor'Sea's website, it looks as if the difference in cost between a new Monty 15' with trailer and a new Monty 17' with trailer is about $5,700.00 so I know I'm comparing apples and oranges. But what I'm trying to suggest is that Scott might be onto something: " . . . the price [of the M15 in Oregon] seems quite reasonable if it is as advertised." Another survey and you'll have spent $5,600.00 on the 10-years-older Kansas M15 if the asking price is firm. The Oregon sounds like a good deal. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hughston, Larry" <Larry.Hughston@dgs.ca.gov> To: "'For and about Montgomery Sailboats'" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, May 20, 2004 10:44 AM Subject: m15 . . . http://msog.org/cfmods/M-boats4sail.cfm . . . none of these are available? The survey came out good. I was sent a written report, the cost was $300. I am stuck here in Sacramento so I thought it might be worth a shot. The only thing that was noted was a dry tire on the trailer and a few minor things that were not safety issues. The report included a visual on the motor also. -----Larry -----Original Message----- From: Bob [mailto:Bobeeg@earthlink.net] Sent: Thursday, May 20, 2004 7:49 AM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats Subject: m15 . . . http://msog.org/cfmods/M-boats4sail.cfm . . . none of these are available? Larry How did the survey come out? Where any problems found and how much did the surveyor charge? Just curious..! Bob Hughston, Larry wrote: The Seller in Oregon got offended when I politely asked if there was any room negotiation on the price. His ad reads " asking price $5995.00". To me when the word "asking price" is used I take that to mean there might be room for discussion of the final price. That's the Montgomery 15 I paid to be surveyed. ---L -----Original Message----- From: Honshells [mailto:chonshell@ia4u.net] Sent: Thursday, May 20, 2004 3:54 AM To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Subject: m15 . . . http://msog.org/cfmods/M-boats4sail.cfm . . . none of these are available? I'll keep my ear open for any used 15s. It has been my observation that used Montgomery 15s are becoming a rare species. 5 years ago they were available and correctly coveted for what they were. Over the years and because of the new M_15s, the price of the used boats have shot up more than double. What used M_15 on the msog.org site is 'not for sale'? In your research, are any of the others already SOLD? We can update Doug on this info. Fair winds Bob Hughston, Larry wrote: Bob, These sites are not well maintained. It can be really frustrating!
