I've had a CDI FF2 on CornDog for about 15 years now without a single problem. The unit is simple and bulletproof. I had a 150 genoa made for it by Yager Sails, in fact I'm on my second one now, and both have been excellent. The M17 loves it's 150. Really seems to come alive when the winds allow it to be used, which is most of the time here in the northwest. I did replace the forestay when I installed the unit, but just because it was original to my 1976 boat. I don't think the furler has added much time to my launching. I guess it just depends on how you do it. I leave my sail furled on the CDI all the time. For trailering I have a special travel sleeve that slides over the furled sail to keep it clean and safe, and then everything straps to the mast. It will stick out beyond the foot of the mast about a foot and a half, so a piece of 2"pvc slid into the end of the mast makes a nice extension to support it on long road trips. I am not familiar with the newer Snapfurl's. They may be great, too, if they can be left on the forestay when traveling. If your boat lives in a slip, that wouldn't matter. be aware that a furling unit will increase rigging time by 15-20 minutes if you 'dry sail' the boat.
