Stay out of the way of the big dudes., they only pick the biggest B..... A.... to paddle in the Cross Channel Races.😎 Stay cool Jim. Do you sail out of the Yacht Basin on Oahu? Are you the present owner of the M15 that was sailed to Hawaii, I forget his name but remember reading how he beefed up the rig and made the journey in approx. 30+ days if my memory serves me correctly. It may have been an M17. Dang it's tough getting old (86) 2 things go first in old age memory and I can't remember the other. actually ... this is a debated topic and I've always been told, going back to my lessons back in the '70s, to give way and stay out of the way of human powered vessels. however the regulations see human powered boats has power boats and therefore more maneuverable than a large vessel (ie, boat with limited mobility or in a channel) and a sailboat (with motor off).
however, a captain is required, regardless of right of way, to avoid a collision.
now - it is up to you if you wish to 'press the point' with a bunch of big dudes!

Last evening I found myself underway on a starboard tack and a collison course with a outrigger canoe powered by 6 or 7 big Hawaiian boys.
Who has the right of way?
