Doug, I have the 3.5hp Merc. long shaft and it does not have an external tank option. I've looked into it, but Merc. doesn't install the necessary pump to pull the gas from an external tank until you go up to a 4hp or larger engine. I know some have installed a valve to the internal tank so that they can use a bulb to pump gas into the tank from an external tank. But that's the closest thing I've heard of that comes close to a small 2hp having an external tank option.
