Hi Wayne; Sorry didn't get back to you right away but I don't check email every day. I installed the access port center rear cockpit on the vertical edge. My boat is the old type with a single cockpit drain. Both the thru-hull and thru-cockpit pipes were ok. I was just worried about how old the radiator hose connecting the two might be. I tried several types of hose but couldn't get any to make the tight bends correctly. I ended up fabricating the bends with 1'-1/4" copper pipe which I attached to the thru-hull pipes with short pieces of vinyl hose. There was only enough room for a single stainless hose clamp at each end. Barring any electrolis problems it seems to be working fine although I would have liked to add a shut off valve or check valve since the access port makes it easily and quickly accessible. The mast raising system is a little more complicated but similar systems are described in the archives. If you can't locate them let me know and I will try to make a sketch of my system, it works well but if I have crew with me I don't bother to use it. Incidentally it turned out that it wasn't my cockpit drain that was leaking, it was the traveler mounting bolts. They had not been properly bedded. Hi Ken I'm intrested in knowing how you replaced your cockpit drain, & where the access port was installed to accomplish this. I also own a '76 M17 & suspect my drain is leaking so I.'m looking for a good way to replace it. Also would be intrested in descriptions and/or pic's of your mast raising system. (by the way I understand a good way to unstick the c'board is with a 3/16" dia. steel rod stuck through the pennant hole accompanied by a sharp tap with a hammer) Fair winds

Irv; My M17 is 1976. I have had her about five years. Haven't made many modifications just normal upkeep. I did add a access port for the cockpit drain and redid the drain line, added an adjustable backstay, a mast raising system (for one man) and rebuilt parts of the trailer. Right now the centerboard is stuck and I need to remove and refinish it, or if Jerry gets new ones made I will go that route. I sail my boat in northern Ca including San Francisco Bay, Tomales Bay and local lakes. This boat is much more seaworthy that my 1976 Catalina 22 was. Hello, I am considering purchasing a 1982 M17. I have looked at a Potter 19, a Catalina 22, a Precision 21, A Compac 19, and a Compac Suncat. I am married and have 2 boys 7 and 16. The last sailboat I owned was a 1969 Tartan 27 . I will be sailing on coastal New England waters. We will be spending an occasional overnight. I like to be out there when it is blowing and like to have confidence in my boat. Any thoughts, feedback, or comments appreciated. TIA Irv Kooris
