Fun project for a professor (of what, I ask?) or his grad students. I am not a microbiologist, but I suspect that the bacteria living on garbage plus the viruses in cat box absorbants make dumps a bad place to forage for food--even without the diapers. Hey guys, What do you think happens with diposible diapers, both baby and adult? Last year, I had the opportunity to watch adult diapers go into a dumpster on a daily basis at a skilled nursing facility, and in large quantities too. Was it legal? Depends. The only precaution I saw, was that the diapers were put into plastic trash bags.
Pett's site also states that the bags are landfill approved. Another reason for not poking around in landfills.

Putting your waste in bags, and dropping those bags into a dumpster is sure better than the baby diapers we often see in parking lots and beside highways.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe putting untreated human waste in a landfill is kosher.

I opted for the Herreschoff solution, substituting a hard rubber bucket from a Farm Supply store. An odor proof plastic liner takes care of the mess and can be sealed until at a dumpster. The bucket is also handy for wash jobs, etc.
