Thanks to everyone who contributed to the whisker pole discussion. Hmmmm track or just ring.... I have it on my growing list. May wait till the winter boat show. Will price things now, and compare then. Some of the show deals are no deal. Julie and I looked through Sean's San Juan slideshows on YouTube tonight and saw a number of whisker poles, bimini's and rain/shade canopies on the 17s on that cruise. Lots of great ideas!! Loading for Lake Champlain tomorrow, heading out Friday am dark and early to beat the morning traffic heading across Toronto. Thanks again. I use a padeye on the mast at the top for the spinn pole and a clip at the bottom. I collapse the whisker pole and attach it to the movable padeye on top and a clip at the bottom. I then put a bungee around the bottom of the mast as a precaution. I usually single hand so, don't use the spinaker unless I have a hearty young crew so, the spinn gear is usually left ashore. One of my jibs has a very high clew and the 150 Genoa is a deck sweeper so, the adjustable padeye is great.

Can you describe the hardware you use where you connect the top end of the pole to the mast? Both stored vertical on the mast. Whisker pole on one side and spinnaker pole (if carried) on the other.

Do you fly a spinnaker as well? How do you store the poles? Vertical on the mast?

Griselda, my M17 has a track about 5 feet long mounted on the
foreward
side of the mast with a sliding, pin lock padeye. This allows the mounting point to be adjusted for any of my 4 jibs or the spinnaker pole. Set it where it works best.

Good morning all,
So far it is looking like a nice start to September in this area (Ontario). We are heading to Lake Champlain for Labor Day weekend till later in the week. Then up to the Ottawa River at Arnprior.
I have looked through the list archives searching for whisker pole info. Some references to the different types of poles (mostly Forespar). My question is how do I determine the vertical height on the mast to install a fitting to hold the inboard end? Has anyone a done this, or have a link to refer me to so I can calculate it? I am thinking to just put a single eye, instead of a short length of track.
Thanks,
