i didn't see the incident so my take is based on watching the video. as JUSTUS sailed closely alee of the larger boat JUSTUS's topping lift caught the aft end of the larger boat's boom. this caused JUSTUS to go stern down and then do the quick 180. see pictures #5-9, notice the black line hooked on the boom and the larger boat's crew looking at the boom end. the mast is both bent aft and and s-curve port and starboard ... i am ordering a new mast with the boat with the next batch of Sage 17 masts. :: Dave Scobie :: Sage Marine --- On Sat, 3/10/12, Karen and Smiley <magoo252@comcast.net> wrote:
Dave,
Thanks for the U-tube link to the tack that Sal and Gail were on when they took on water, can you or maybe Sal explain what happened? I looked at those pictures a few times and can only think that they were caught with air off the stern of that Sailboat they were passing (McGregor) and Sal sitting on the stern of his Monty did not help matters. Man I have never seen anything like that before, a good explanation would be nice. Thanks Dave, Sal or heck Gail who maintained her cool and stuck on the high side the whole ride J
