We sleep in our Montgomery 15 all the time. We put our feet forward with her on the starboard. Climbing in and out isn't too bad, sort of like getting in and out of a backpacking tent. I have a cloth box sort of next to my head on the port side that we leave in place but pretty much everything else goes out into the cockpit when we sleep, including when we stop and sleep when trailering. Sometimes the combination of the box keeping me forward and the little dog who has to pick a spot where the bow is getting narrow makes our feet a little crowded, but my feet really like room and air. What I think are the stock cushions we recovered a couple of years ago are quite comfortable. When I sleep in the boat alone, I leave everything in the cabin on the starboard side and sleep the same way on the port side. All the stuff on the other side always keeps me in place just fine! In the Sea of Cortez the cabin got a little stuffy and my feet were unhappy. I can't imagine having my head down there at times like that. Oh, when my son and I slept on the boat on Great Slave Lake he slept inside like I do alone with most of the stuff and I slept in the cockpit in a bivy bag on the nice cockpit cushions we have. Not perfectly comfortable but still a fine solution. I've never sat in the cabin, always lie down in there. One of my concerns is the sleeping arrangements in the cabin. After a few 5 day cruises in the Monty, I've decided, there just has to be a better way, than what I've been doing. First, I discarded all the cushions. They reduce sitting headroom height! Every inch counts in the Monty 15 cabin. Mainly, I've been sleeping head at bow, on the port side. I sleep in a sleeping bag, on top of a couple of body-length 22"-wide camping cushion pads. The bed is soft enough - that's not the problem. It's getting into the sleeping bag that's an exercise in calistenics, and getting out. Furthermore, there's all that room, to starboard. I liked to be wedged, when sleeping in a boat. I'm not sure how to assure that on the Monty, other than putting sacks of spare blankets between me and the starboard hull. I'm not much satisifed with that solution though. I've considered making some kind of wooden border, but that might be unwieldy. One other thing I do is stuff sacks of more gear into the bow triangle, so as to give me something behind the two pillows I use. Otherwise, the pillows just migrate into that wedge, while failing to take me with them. I'd be curious to know how others situate themselves when sleeping at anchor on their M15s.
