Brian, our M17 came with a manual bilge pump as well, and I believe it is a Whale. I called about rebuilding mine and was given some information which I will have to re-locate. Is your pump mounted in the cockpit at the bridge deck? t Tom Smith & Jane VanWinkle M15/345--Chukar M17/064--Unnamed -----Original Message----- From: montgomery_boats-bounces+tsmith=nextit.com@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:montgomery_boats-bounces+tsmith=nextit.com@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Brian Gilbert Sent: Saturday, July 09, 2005 5:45 PM To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Subject: M_Boats: Bulge pumps- anybody ever heard of a "chump?" I know, it sounds like the lead-in to a joke, but I'm not kidding. My M17 (ex Stargazer) came with a nice, high-quality diaphram bilge pump. It looks like a Whale, but doesn't say Whale anywhere that I can find. The only marking on it is "chump PH" on the handle casting. It's made of plastic. Has anybody ever heard of such a beast? I'd like to find a rebuild kit for it... the rubber is starting to show a little cracking. I've also got to make an extension for the bilge pump. I was crawling around on the sole today (after removing the water tank and hoses for cleaning and replacement... another story) and I noticed bilge water just below the level of the sole. The pump hose connected to a short piece of metal which looks like it might have been mild steel at one time. Now it's a black, corroded mess. I've noted from other posts that there's a sump underneath the sole, and I'm going to make something to pick up most of the water from as low in the sump as possible. If anyone knows the approximate dimensions of the sump, please let me know... it'll save me a bunch of poking around in some very nasty water. Thanks a bunch BG -- Brian Gilbert Marine Media M17 "Tiny Dancer" (ex "Stargazer") (423)876-9990 3404 Hartford Drive Chattanooga, TN 37415 www.sailingsmall.com _______________________________________________ http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/montgomery_boats
