Hey Connie,
The kero stove we used was also a Primus.  I made a priming can that put the exact amount of fluid in the cup when you tilted the can up.  It was simple and kept the overfilling and fire scare to a minimum.  I actually had more flareups with the alcohol stoves than the kero.  I'm glad to see the wick type stoves for safety reasons though...they don't flare up if the prime isn't hot enough.  We used "flame tamers" to keep the soot off...and to make simmering easier. Otherwise it was dirty!

I used propane for a refridge once and had a gas engine (Chris 60hp)...and never got over the fear of leaks and explosions. It seems some folks nose gets used to the propane smell and small leaks aren't noticed too.  I went aboard a 40'r sail and the crew couldn't smell it...but I did. The wind was blowing back into the vent and down into the cabin.
