Dear Fellow Monty Owners and Admirers, Great news! Bob Eeg has informed my wife and me that our sails are now complete and are being shipped to us directly by the sailmaker, Elliott Pattison. We are very pleased to receive this news, as a sailboat without sails is not much use, even one as well made as the Montgomery! Alas, the interior cushions are still not ready. Bob Eeg has had multiple problems with his cushion supplier for quite awhile now. Seems the man was sidelined with a broken hip some months ago and couldn't work. Then, when he was well enough to continue with his craft, he started using inferior cushion foam. This did not sit well with Bob, and he directed the man to order and begin using better quality foam, consistent with the construction quality of Montgomery boats. According to Bob, the man is now using great foam. Of course, the process of getting the cushion man to do the right thing caused an additional delay. However, kudos are due to Bob for requiring, and incurring the extra expense of, the better foam! Also to his credit, Bob has offered to drive the cushions to our home in San Diego when they are completed to make sure they fit properly and to save us the hassle and expense of trailering the new boat back to the factory for such purpose. This is a very nice gesture! Although the delay in getting the cushions to complete our little yacht is a bit frustrating (she was ordered in early April with a 60 day completion estimate), Judy and I are confident that Bob will be able to exert enough control over his cushion supplier to keep the delay from becoming unconscionable. All in all, we would rather have to wait a bit longer for quality cushions than have cushions which are unfit to sit or sleep on and that don't live up to the Montgomery name! Therefore, we are sanguine about the situation. I will keep you all posted on the quality and fit of the sails and cushions as they are received. I will also let you know how well she sails (of course, those of you who own M15s already know, but I thought that those folks who are considering buying one might be interested in as many opinions as they can get).
