You know, sometime I feel a little smug about our keel boats with there ballast that makes them much less prone to capsizing. then I see this. I was reading Francis B. Cooke about his cruising boats. One of his favorites was a little "tabloid" cruiser, 18' long, 6' beam, 3.5 ' draught. Sound a little like our 17? But his ballast was a1300 lbs iron keel with a extra 1300 lb inside ballast. 2600 lbs ballast without considering the weight of the boat. No wonder he considered her "stiff as a church". Got my 15 out today with my son. We spent 3 hrs drifting and I do mean drifting. Maybe another time. Chesley Sugg M15 Mouse
