I owned a 1986 M-17 for six years. I now own an S2 6.9 (22') on a slip. Although I am of average build, 5'9" and 160 lbs., I could step the mast by myself. On a flat hard surface I could maneuver the trailer and boat by hand. I started out with a Taurus for trailering, but as I got into finding and sailing lakes farther from home I bought a 4x4 Explorer with a towing package. Early on I encountered a number of steep ramps that were a real strain for the Taurus, but once I traded for an Explorer there were no more problems. Solo launching took a little extra thought and care, but I could manage it alright. The M17 is a fantastic boat that is very fast, beautiful, comfortable, and exceptionally seaworthy. I think it was Jerry Montgomery who told me that the M17 was designed to cruise two people for two weeks. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Thomason" <thomasond2@michigan.gov> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, July 30, 2004 8:11 AM Subject: Re: M_Boats: Wannabe, requests M-15 picture
I'll be wanting to solo on a few occasions, and I see folks are saying that launching & rigging an M15 by yourself is OK. How about riggin an M17 solo?
Part of the thrill of Michigan, is that there are literally hundreds of good sailing inland lakes, besides the Great Lakes, and Lake St. Clair; so, being able to trailer her is half the fun. _______________________________________________ http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/montgomery_boats
