Both motors swivel in the notch, just. You have to cut the fuel lever flush with the case. When rotated to the reverse position I get the same thrust as when going forward, which is much better than turning a propeller backward. I can direct the thrust by rotating the motor in sync with the rudder and have become adept at "parking" dockside. I recommend you borrow one and experiment. Reliable, Reliable, Reliable! At 27 # it's the best motor for my needs. I would not hang one of those adjustable mounts on the transom. It puts the motor further aft increasing the effective weight on the transom. It neatly stows under the cockpit sole when not needed. Out of sight, out of mind. Jon Barber Monty17 Ol'44
