I do have the boat “Kestrel” that I bought from Bob Becker. To be honest, I have not used the boarding ladder once!! Coming over the transom with the rear pulpit would be somewhat gymnastic, so I have entered the boat on occasion over the side without a ladder after jumping out to swim etc. I have never needed to enter the boat from the water in an emergency situation yet, but I think a transom ladder would not be great for that. I have to go out and look at the boat to see the model. Bob did a good job with the installation, and even though there are only 2 fixation points, he has them very securely mounted with large backer boards. I suspect they will hold. I am currently building a SCAMP sailboat, and plan to use the method outlined by Howard Rice to enter the boat over the side using an elevator approach with some fixed line. Getting over the rail of a boat with lots of freeboard is a challenge when in the water. Daniel From: Dave Scobie
