GRACE has a homemade bimini that we set up whenever we
anchor for very long. It consists of some aluminum tubing with standard
bimini fittings a few pieces of small line and one large rectangular piece of
Sunbrella. It attaches forward at the shrouds and is supported aft by telescoping
aluminum tubing (again standard bimini items sold at West Marine). It takes
less than 5 minutes to set up and folds down out of the way on the transom like
a convertible top when not in use. We have only used it in nice weather (as a
sunshade and it also keeps dew from forming on items left in the cockpit
somewhat). It is quite an ingenious setup for which I take no credit whatsoever
(it was designed and built by Grace’s former owner). When I roll Grace
out from under her winter cover I will take some photos and send them to the
website if anybody is interested.
