Summer time in Dixie. Late July and August are rough. I showed up at the Yacht Club a little before noon and did some clean-up chores on Sweet Dream. Drove around the corner and dropped her in. Motored out the river into the bay. The heat was oppresive, but Sweet Dream has a factory Bimini top. I don't use it much but went ahead and raised it. AH Shade! with a 10 knot wind blowing up the bay it was bearable. I shut down the trusty 2 HP Honda and tilted it into the CORRECT position, raised sail and took off. The wind was beginning to freshen. I trimmed the sails to keep the weather helm down and thought about a reef. Sweet Dream was running near hull speed on a close reach. It just doesn't get any better than this. I needed another 110 lbs of blond to balance the boat but sweety can't take the heat. Then thunder, Sweety called on the cell phone and said there were bad thunderstorms in the area. I couldn't see them in the haze but decided to turn back anyway. The run back was great. The new downhaul came in handy dropping the jib and the main came down easy. I motored back and put her back on the trailer. A quick run back the the club and a washdown and I stowed her away. I laid the trusty 2 HP on the bed of my truck (the Correct Way) and unhitched the trailer. The rain fell in buckets as I drove away. The heat was gone. Talk about good timing.
