For what it's worth, I have a butane/propane backpacking stove from MSR that gives outstanding performance. With an additional accessory, it can be hung from a boom, tree limb, etc. (it's actually for big wall climbing!) In any case, the stove is suspended via four cables which effectively hold pots or fry pans in place, as well as a high performing windscreen. I prefer to cook with it in this arangement, rather than on the ground or deck-no way to tip it over! It's probably equal to any conditions you'd care to cook in. I got it from REI (rei.com) for about $100. Steve Tyree, P-15 #2098 "Amy Ann"
