A new electrical system is no big deal, but after you install it you have the big advantage of knowing where you put everything / its condition / how to access it / and it will fulfill your specific requirements - number of lights / where / number of outlets / etc. I installed an electrical system in LEPPO using a small motorcycle battery. My 2 HP Honda OB didn't allow me to charge to battery, so it had to be small enough so that I could easily carry the battery home and charge it there. Connie Benneck ex M15 #400 LEPPO
Go for it! I paid $2500 for my 1979 M17 earlier this year and believe I got a bargain. Mine didn't come with a motor (l'm looking for one), the keel works but has not been refurbished, and the transom needs major repair.

I have a wonderful 1981 M-15 down at my sailing club that I have had for about a year.
Recently, a 1982 M-17 came up for sale, $2500. She's in ok but not great shape. No major problems that I can find. Centerboard has been dropped, sanded and epoxied. Boat is dirty and has some cushions but they really don't fit. She comes with a ok trailer, new lights and bearings. Boat has electric system missing. 4 hp 2-stroke johnson. Am I a idiot for buying her? I just want to find out if it suits me better that my 15.
Thanks, Ches
