John, You will definitely need fairleads on your furling line. It is very important to get the line to feed in and out of the drum in the middle. Otherwise, when you try to unfurl your sail, the line will wind too much to one side and will fill that side of the drum and bind up before the sail is fully unfurled. Mine are bullseye fairleads running along the toe rail. The last (at the bow) is a small block that is mounted to a leg of the bow pulpit with a u-bolt. My cleat is a simple horn cleat mounted on the gunnel. Rik John L. Gonzalez wrote:
Folks who've mounted a roller furler on their M-15: Did you use fairleads for the furling/reefing line? If no, how's the operation without such? If yes, what type of fairlead did you use and where did you mount them? What sort of cleat did you use for the reefing/furling line, and where did you mount it?
I'll be rigging my CDI FF1 this weekend or next, and would prefer to learn from the experience of others, instead of certainly replicating others' (or even inventing new) mistakes!
