Jim, Got back from traveling the full length of Baja yesterday. If you are reassured rather than intimidated by numerous military checkpoints manned by largely courteous soldiers with facemasks and bulletproof vests (they seem to be a fixture in today's Mexico), and you don't mind narrow roads, there are great adventures to be had with a trailer boat on both sides of the peninsula. You will need to find out about launching ramps from various websites and blogs, but I am sure the info is out there. As always, 2-4 boats traveling together would be the most fun and safest. If you do go down there, cross the border at Tecate; Tijuana has some roadmares whether or not you are pulling a boat. As for the swivel cleat, did you use 10-22 machine screws or rivets? Could you send a picture? Happy sailing, Tom On Apr 17, 2010, at 2:51 PM, Jim Ellsworth wrote:
Tom,
I forgot to tell you that I added another swivel cam cleat for the main halyard and it works great!

Jim, I am leaving this PM for a kayak fishing trip up the Baja side of the Sea of Cortez (Cabo to the border). If I survive, I will report on how things look on that side of the pond. I have not sailed there since 1996. Tom

I agree with Eldor about his concerns about travel in Mexico but I too would love to do some exploring in Mexico so I will also be waiting for a full report from J & C after their trip to the Sea of Cortez.

J & C I have been wanting to sail the Sea of Cortez for a long time, but now with all the drug wars I'm not sure if its safe. Let us know how it goes. Eldor _______________________________________________ http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/montgomery_boats
