Guy, One of the comments that Jerry Montgomery made to me about choosing between the boats was that you will tend to sail more with the 15. It is just so easy to get it rigged and in the water, plus it is a lot of fun to sail. Don't expect a lot of creature comforts, or berths for friends and family, but it is safe, sound, and gives you a dry place to sleep. The only advantage I can think of is easier to trailer and launch. If you were to be out for a few days the more room in the seventeen would sure be an advantage. Same thing if you expect to be sailing with one or two people or three or four adults. Both boats are exceptionally sea worthy boats. I think they are the best. But think about your own personal situation, Where will you store the boat, will you use it primarily in one location or will you trailer for great distance? Again, good luck in your search and think about your own needs, Jim Morris
