Sean et al.: The EXCEL database function is not the most sophisticated out there, but it is quite adequate for searches using multiple criteria, and a large percentage of computer owners have it on board already and know how to use it. It would not break a sweat accepting 2000 rows (boats) and a dozen columns of boat/owner data. I played around with a worksheet today, and I think photos of the boats can be made to move with the associated data when you do a search (help me out, computer dudes). I have not done a website, but I don't see why EXCEL files could not be downloaded from a page much as .pdf files; if not, possibly a worksheet downloaded in .pdf form could be extracted by EXCEL and saved in native EXCEL format for searches. All this of course skirts the real issues brought up by Sean and Bill: who does the work and pays the price? The issue of privacy might not be so critical, since empty cells are not a problem. Even hull number and state might be fun to know if owners are willing to divulge that much, and some owners might be willing to divulge more. I would be willing to give it a try, but I'm not sure how user friendly my "free" website service will be for something like that. I guess I could place the info in an excell type format and then cut and past it onto my site. One thing I always dread, though, is, how long will the service be free??? So far it's been free for a number of years and I have a lot of stuff on there. If they decide to change things on me, it would be a bummer to lose it. Although, I I guess I'd still have the original document. Let me email Bill from the photosite and see if its anything he's interested in handling. If not, I'll try to put together something. I think it would be a nice resource for a lot of us. Sean **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch "Cooking with Tyler Florence" on AOL Food.
