My pendant jams too if I take 3 wraps on the winch. The solution for me has been to take only 2 wraps on the winch. Two wraps are (just) enough grip to raise the centerboard and never jam.
I found a teak winch pad for a 4” winch, 1-1/2” thick, about $15— https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GOML8EA It’s perfect. No more jams.
