Hey Bones! Thanks for the compliment. :-) It turns out, through some help here on the forum,.....and then through a friend who understands websites much better than me....we were able to salvage MOST of the old "Havasumontgomerys" site, including the majority of web pages depicting Dauntless' rebuild.... I now have control of the pages again and have them moved onto my server space I get from Godaddy....so they are safe. Thanks to everyone that helped me save all that stuff. So ...the home page works and most of the links are good.... The NEW web address is _www.saildauntless.com_ (http://www.saildauntless.com) I plan on reworking the home page and start building some new pages with updates of projects and trips we have done since that original website went down. With respect to "What is an M23 worth???" Well here's my opinion (and that's all it is). It truly is whatever someone is willing to pay for it. A LOT has to do with how much of a refurb (if any) it needs, and how much has already been done by the current owner....AND...how comfortable you are with the current owners work. For instance... I performed MAJOR surgery to Dauntless on her keel, and she at one time also had a MAJOR blister problem. That was close to seven years ago now and we have never had a recurrence of a single blister or problem with any of the work. I have no worries about her and as you know we've sailed her in some pretty ambitious conditions and trips. However,.....when most people look at what I did to her, and consider that it was not done by a "Professional"...they would shy way. I would too, or at least give it a real good lookover. After all, only I really know the materials, process, time, effort, care, etc that went into refurbing her. One thing I have in my favor is that it has been 7 years of documented sailing and we have had no problems....but many folks would still be skittish to purchase my work. I surely can't blame them for that. Jo and I have even recently again discussed selling Dauntless and stepping down to the M17. However, I have every bit of $25K+ invested in her, and I don't even want to think about the hours and hours of "free labor". I would be hard pressed to find anyone willing to part with that kind of $$ to take her off my hands. And thus ...the story of "classsic" sailboats!! LOL So I guess she will keep Lake Havasu as her home port for many years to come. I have seen M23's sell from $7K to well over $20....and new ones for well beyond that. With only 20 of the boats out there it truly is a seller's market.....but the buyer ultimately sets the value. I don't think you could find a boat that better defines a "cult boat", as the people that buy these....buy these because they have already decided that an M23 is THE boat they want. They are usually not shopping for anything BUT and M23. I will say this about the boat. If/when the day comes that I part ways with Dauntless....there will be a lot of second guessing. I know of no trailerable production 23' boat that sails as well, or that I trust as much. I have stood her on her ear 15 miles offshore, without hesitation. In fact, it usually brings a grin to my face. Lyle Hess did an incredible job designing the M-line and I feel privileged to be allowed to maintain custody of this one for a while. Knowing that (if I do eventually send her to a new home), if I change my mind I can't just go out and buy another one will make parting difficult.
