Boat fixin'

Recently ordered Don Casey's book, "Sailboat Maintenance Manual". The order sent to Practical Sailor Magazine was drop shipped to some gentleman in Washington state. Took about a month to straighten that out but now I do have the book here in Texas and it was worth the hassle. I am on the "wrong" end of a long list of things to do for my M 17 but by starting with the purchase of this tome I took the best first step. It is well written, well illustrated and after just twenty minutes of browsing through it I picked up an enormous amount of information about how to do what I have to do here. I am one of those "lets use what we have on hand" and that will NOT work on fiberglass boat repair. It looks like the procurement of the proper materials will take some time on the front end of any of the projects but all efforts expended will be in the right direction. I highly recommend this book to anybody who is starting to lavish TLC on a fiberglass boat. Don't let the price dissuade you (about $60). It will pay for itself many times over by the time you are finished with your masterpiece. Fair winds, Tom B, M17 #258

2014 WICR / Potter Invitational Update

Update - Great News - No planned adverse water level conditions on the horizon at this time - The 2014 WICR / Potter Invitational Regatta is ON for January 17-19, 2014 ! (always was - we got little boats) According to long range weather forecasts the Western US should have a 'wet and snowy winter' - no planned work at the local infrastructure that would cause adverse affects to the water levels (no guarantee here as Nature Rules) We have our first Potter Yachters coming to the event - go to _www.wrinkleboat.webs.com_ (http://www.wrinkleboat.webs.com/) to see who that might be and view the newly revised and brighter site! This year is looking like the largest and best event since the 'bearded guy' said "let's do this!" - Good things on tap for 2014 and the WICR / Potter Invitational! If you are planning on coming - please mail me and I will put your name on the 'Who's Coming' List if you desire. For those that have participated in the past and may not be coming - Is there something we can do to make the event more appealing? M15 Fathead mainsail for cruising?

I saw Jerry's article in the new small craft advisor, and am wondering if you guys think a full batten fathead main would be suitable for cruising in an M15? Also, who makes a good M15 fathead mainsail? I'm torn trying to decide on a mainsail because I'll be mostly cruising but also appreciate good performance. I'm a big fan of the Pardey's books, and they recommend no battens at all for a cruising sail- as it lasts longer and can be dropped easier without going dead to windward. Any suggestions/experience are welcome! Tyler
