I own a 1983 Montgomery 15. Last summer was my first time using the boat due to the pandemic and some other health issues but I did manage to launch and keep at a dock on Lake Pymatuning (OH/PA border) from August to September. Apparently the boat was always dry sailed, and never had anti fouling paint applied as the bottom was clean when I bought it almost three years ago. When I hauled it out (dumb me) there was algae on the bottom. I was able to get it pretty clean using a marine algae cleaner and powerwasher but I'll give it another hit in the spring. As I was powerwashing, I seem to have removed a 3" section of fiberglass from the fin keel, forward on the port side. Looks like exposed metal. Is this lead or steel? Can't see well in there. How should it be fixed/patched? I really don't want to apply anti-fouling paint and will dry sail after I modify the trailer with keel guides and slicker beds to make launch and recovery easier. Any suggestions on repair and trailer mods are appreciated. Thanks Rimantas "Ray" Aukstuolis

. my centerboard pennant parted with centerboard down Mi pennant let go after the boat was on the trailer. I always strap the board up when trailering, and let any tension off the pennant I ran all the scenarios, asked for advice online. Everyone said I needed to lower the board to access the shackle. I finally realized the shackle could be seen thru the pennant hole with the board up. Using copper wire with a hook bent in the end I was able to work a new pennant thru the shackle. I laid the end along the standing part and sewed them together, serving over the whole mess. I used my speedy stitcher. The repair held all summer, with the boat at mooring and the board suspended by the pennant. This was much easier than any alternative method contemplated. If you don't need to make any other repairs, leave the board where it is. I try to choose the simplest method I can. Occams" razor. Spend more time sailing, less time vanishing, fixing, etc. BTW; is pendant the right term for the centerboard line? I always thought pennant was the flag I fly (and repeated replace) that shows my club colors. Burgee, I guess. All quite confusing. Jon Barber Potter Yachter Monty17 Ol'44

M15 turnbuckles

My 1981 M15 has turnbuckles that look like parts from an Erector set. (A series of 12 holes for inserting the clevis pins) None of the settings result in appropriate shroud tension. Is there another type of tension device M15 owners are using? I am unable to find a jaw-to-jaw turnbuckle short enough to do the job. Appreciate your help. Mike W M15 #139

Hard to believe

. Saw this power boat at the lake yesterday. A Master Craft brand, looked like 20-22 feet. A salesman was giving a test ride. I asked about the price. He said 250. That's $250,000, otherwise known as a quarter million dollars! Makes 20k for a Sage 17 sound pretty reasonable(and lots more engaging, fun, challenging). Jerry, thanks again for the great boat. I won both races at the cruiser challenge this year. We sailed the old girl hard (and I didn't have to race against you and Gary). (Jon Barber)

Geoff Prindle

My old friend Geoff, of Prindle Cat fame, passed on about a month ago. Geoff and I have communicated several times a year forever, and I tried to call him recently and found that his phone was disconnected. I drove up to his place, which is at about the 300' level in the Sierras and it was closed down. Talked to neighbor, who told me he had just passed on from a type of blood cancer. I, and many others, will miss him. He was a good friend, and a very talented guy.
