Rudder Rod

Looking for information on the rudder control rod. The shaft is bent on the boat I recently acquired. I was able to install the rudder but due to the bends in the rod I cannot raise the rudder. Is this part available or do I need to have one made? I have found an online source for C464 "Marine" brass but could use info on exact dimensions or better advice. As always.....Thanks. Dave and Jerry, Thanks for the reply, Exactly the info I needed. While "neglected" is too strong of a description for # 400, she is due for some TLC. We are getting to know each other and getting along just fine. The wind is blowin and now it's time to go for a sail. Thanks again. For many years we used 316 stainless and drilled holes at the base to lock the rod in place with cotter keys but too many of them went bombs away when being installed so when we switched to alum bronze we had a step milled in the base, to /3/8", and changed the bottom gudgeon to 3/8, which is what we should have done in the first place. If your bottom gudgeon is drilled to 1//2" I'd suggest taking it to a machine shop and having I plate welded on, drilled to 3/8. At the same time have them turn about 3/4" of the end of the rod to 3/8 and you're gopopd to go. Don't forget the bedding. We made a short (narrow in height) hatch board to which we mounted cup holders. That makes drinks handy when sitting up at the front of the cockpit (as Dave Scobie suggests for sailing efficiency). That board idea came from Connie Benneck, a great resource on this list. As good as the board with the cup holders work, I admit we mostly set drinks on the floor and are careful. That actually works fine most of the time. Yesterday on my first sail of my M-15 I was missing my drink holder. What do you use for a drink holder if you do not have a stern bow pulpit to attach it to.

Sail flat or on the side

I took my M-15 out for its first sail with me at the tiller yesterday. Beautiful day and under 10kts of wind….good for a first sail of this boat. But a question came up quickly when I was cruising across the lake. Do these M-15’s sail better on the bottom or on the side. I think that says it. I did both yesterday and using my weight could balance the boat or if I shifted to the other side could sail the boat on its side. Any opinions on that one. I am not trying to squeeze every tiny bit of speed out of her, but just wondered how others sail the M-15. I would appreciate any thoughts or experience along this line.

Sailing on Ross Lake, WA

Has anybody sailed on Ross Lake in the North Cascades National Park in Washington State? I have been eyeing it up for a few years and hoping to bring my Montgomery there. There is a launch ramp at the northern end of the lake in BC. Was wondering the condition of the ramp etc. Been camping at Diablo Lake which is the next lake down below the dam of Ross and is a gorgeous lake with glacial blue water.
