And just in case anyone is looking for 2hp Honda, when I was at Atlantic
Marine Service near Yorktown VA shopping for some spare parts, they had a
new 2hp in showroom and the fellow said he had several 'in the box'. Also
that they would offer 'special price', presumably to clear them out.
No affiliation and I don't know enough to say whether older 2 is desirable
compared to 2.3!

Hi all,
I'm contemplating what to use for new companionway boards on my M17.
It came with some probably previous-owner-made plywood ones that are
warped enough across their width that they don't line up well any more,
especially the joint between the middle and top one (3 boards on mine).
What has anyone used for companionway boards?
Looking for experiences anyone has had with various options.
I'm pondering something like Starboard. Anyone had problems with
sagging/warping in hot weather? Or thermal expansion/contraction?
I am also wondering if the lighter weight Starboard XL would work -
anyone used that for anything? Mostly it just says it's 30% lighter, and
has "less structural strength." But not clear exactly what that
means...for this kind of application.
Looking for a reasonable combination of price vs. durability. And low
maintenance is desirable.
Thus the questions about plastic board products. Oiled teak would look
gorgeous but I think it would cost a fortune.
thanks,
John S.

Hi John,
I had the lower dropboard of my 3 piece system made from Starboard as there always seemed to be a small bit of water at the lower edge of the bridgedeck on my M23. It would try to stain and rot the lower lip of the original veneer teak board. Worked great.
The M17 does not have that bridgedeck.
I did make new dropboards for mine years ago, using teak veneer plywood. I kept and use the old boards when the boat is in winter storage.
I'm sure the price of materials has increased measurably.
