Intentional Capsize for M15

Hi M sailors, I've been watching a few videos about the SCAMP, which is a small wooden boat designed by John Welsford. Seems to be a very stable boat and they did an interesting Intentional Capsize with the boat to judge stability, safety, and self-rescue. I'm sure many of you may have seen the short videos - if not, here are a couple links for reference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=du9lvJNVqnk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRZNWAkdkXM My question as an M15 owner is if this type of test or intentional capsize and recovery has been done on an M15 or M17 or similar boats? I would suspect it would be much harder to intentionally capsize an M17, but an M15 seems like this test could be done. I come from a dinghy sailing background where capsizes are part of the experience and sure adds to your confidence when you know what will happen in a capsize and that you can recover as needed. So that is what got me thinking along these lines. I know I've read that capsizes and knockdowns are very rare for M15s but thought this may be a good summer time type of test/experiment. If not done intentionally, any stories of capsizes and recovery out there? I read the one on msog.org, but hadn't heard of any others. M 15 wandering

Has anyone found a way of keeping a m15 on course when moving about on the boat . I sail and motor on the Fraser river single handed and ever time I move on the boat it will change direction with the tiller tied down . I'm thinking of maybe a Raymarine st1000 might work . Anyone tried this or have any thought on it with a m15 like mine Thanks Klaas

George. The SageCat, and Sage 15, have 220# of lead in a bulb at the bottom of the daggerboard. Draft is 3'6" daggerboard and rudder down. 9" when up. Details, pictures and videos on the boats can be seen through Sage's www - www.sagemarine.com Beside to chef out the BLOG for pictures and additional details ... Including one of the lead bulb used in the daggerboard. The prototype SageCat and Sage 15 are currently in their way to the Wrinkleboat ran-tan at lake Pleasant AZ. Thanks to all who chimed in to my query about topside paints. It's nice to know there is a community of like minded people out there who are also crazy enough, obsessed enough to commit to the care and feeding of these marvelous boats. The decision on how to proceed with the topside repaint came down to fulfilling two requirements 1) Cost 2) Safety I got a quote from a local auto body shop who will paint the topsides from the waterline to the deck joint with their primer and two coats of Valspar 2 part paint for $600.00. This includes the cost of the paint. My plan is to use the boat for 5 years, at which point I'll be 68 and probably ready to downsize again. Monty 12? My safety concerns are centered around exposure to toxic compounds. We cannot put a price on our health and on the health of our families and neighbors(not to mention our pets). I would rather pay someone to apply these substances who is experienced in their use and proper disposal and who has the proper facility to handle them safely. We still don't know what causes cancer. but I don't want to take any risks. I an still deciding on how to get the bottom painted. A local marina quoted $1000 to apply bottom paint. That includes material, set up, environmental fees and labor. I need to have them quote application of a barrier coat. The boat will be in the water all summer (fresh) and I think it wise to take Bob Egg's advise on product and application of a barrier coat. New Photo sharing and question on new Catboat

Thanks to all that made the new photo sharing website possible. I have posted some things I have done and will post more once I have my boat back in hand (it's in storage now). Question Bob Eeg just posted pictures of a catboat 16 ft with a title of sloop or cat boat. I thought this was a pure catboat play. Anyway I envy its new owner Dan Phy who must be very well connected to Bob to get this prized project. I can't wait to read about Dan's experiences sailing this new boat. On another note I near retirement this year (+40 years or work) and look forward to more sailing and am looking to connect with fellow Chesapeake Bay Sailors who are near the Nations Capitol in hopes that we can do some sailing together. I am located in Kensington MD and typically sail the Mid bay at Sandy Point but I have a trailer and can travel. So if interested drop me a line please. Administrator, Well, one step at a time, I attempted to add some information I thought of after I posted the photos today but could not figure out how to do it, nor could I figure out how to put in a technical post.
