Hi, My name is Michael Mann and in 1982, I sailed the Montgomery 15, Little Breeze from CA to Hawaii. I see on the web site that she has been rescued by new owners in Hawaii and I would love to correspond with them. North Carolina Cruise Core Sound

Launched at Morris Landing on Core Sound this week to explore the "Thorofare" a narrow waterway that connects Core Sound to a series of Bays off the Pamlico Sound. Morris Landing is a nice place to sail into for breakfast or lunch; good piers to tie to & old fashioned burgers, etc. I wanted to test it's ramp as a start point for a 2 day trip around Cedar Island (30-40 NM). Its boat ramp is a challenge for the single-handing sailor. Need to use your tongue extension & bring all of your fenders to protect from over-hanging concrete walls. Better to use ramps at either Cedar Island ferry or further south on Core Sound

Wrinkle Boat Mates One on my projects getting ready for the new sailing season here in NWI is boat trim. I have been thinking of adding weight in the form of a cinder block (40 lbs) in the forward compartment under the V berth, secured to the wall of the compartment using a battery tie down system. I have 2 questions 1. Is the 40 lbs enough to counter the engine (36lbs) and skipper (200+) on a solo sail? 2. Should I position the long length of the block along the beam or the centerline (more weight forward) of the boat? Any and all comments are appreciated. My Honda outboard weighs around 25, and with me at the companionway the boat is flat fore to aft, and on her lines. Sails great that way. North Carolina Cruise Pasquotank River & Dismal Swamp

Cruised the upper Pasquotank River from Elizabeth City NC to just short of the Virginia border. Elizabeth City has a nice ramp with secure parking & free overnight docks near the city center. The trip to the Dismal Swamp canal involves three draw bridges and a lock. The opening at South Mills was delayed 10 minutes. The reverse on the 2 HP Honda is not well suited for holding a stationary position in a narrow canal with a foul current. The stern was constantly being pushed off towards overhanging trees. I eventually put the bow up-current & the boat held perfectly. The Dismal Swamp canal offers several landings where one or more boats can tie-up for the night.

I just received this notice through my BoatUS membership. important information - A well-known fire extinguisher manufacturer, Kidde, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has announced a voluntary recall to replace certain Kidde fire extinguisher units. A faulty valve component can cause the disposable fire extinguishers not to fully discharge when the lever is repeatedly pressed and released during a fire emergency, posing a risk of injury. About 4.6 million extinguishers are affected that were sold nationwide between August 2013 and November 2014. A February 12, 2015 safety notice from Kidde stated, “Due to our commitment to quality and safety, we have corrected the issue for production going forward, and are working with customers to obtain all recalled units currently in stock.” Thirty-one models of the disposable fire extinguishers are affected. The extinguishers are red, white, or silver with black plastic valves and ABC or BC rated and manufactured in Mexico between July 23, 2013 and October 15, 2014 and sold at department, home, and hardware stores as well as some marine supply stores. Some of the affected extinguisher models were designed for the boating market and have a nameplate on the front with the names Mariner 10, Mariner 110, Mariner 5, and Mariner 5 G.
