Whiskeytown lake is a great sailing lake. I sailed my there many years ago. The water is clear and deep and it never seemed to be very crowded. No boat camping permitted though! You had to have a shore campsite. There are, however, boat access only campsites. Lots of Redding sailors keep their boats at the Marina there. The power boaters seem to prefer Shasta & Trinity. Scenery is beautiful and there are lots of coves and islands to explore. We enjoyed sailing there quite a bit. That's about all for my contribution to this thread. John, just curious, what's your best go-to sailing venue for the Ashland-Medford area? Can you comment on Emigrant Lake, Hyatt Reservoir, Howard Prarire? Do you venture over to Klamath Lake? I am an M15 owner down in the Sacramento area and, after having driven up to Medford for business on a couple of occasions, wondered about the sailing up there. I saw the M-15 again today (a buddy of mine spotted it a month or more ago, we figured it was just passing through), parked in a lot for some condo/apartments (OSU student housing I think?) on California St. just off E. We sent the Montgomery 17 to a new home/owner on Saginaw Bay, Michigan. Sold a couple of days after posting the ad on MSOG.org. They picked it up today. Was a great boat for us since 2009. Great memories of so many good trips. Thanks to this terrific group for all your ideas, advice, suggestions. I think I will stay logged in and lurk, or suggest, as needed. We're new to sailing. A relative gave us an Alumacraft 12 foot pram with no sail. We ordered a kit from sailrite and put a sail together on the living-room floor, duct taped a giant hole in the hull and took the boat to the nearest water. Then we knew we liked sailing and so I began an intense research endeavor to figure out what kind of sailors we thought we wanted to be. We decided we are definitely not racers, but unable to be satisfied with lack of performance. We are social folks and loners all at the same time. We like to plan things out but we're also spontaneous. We are frugal which means we don't buy cheap (if you know what I'm saying.) I read several books and the entire internet in about a month and after one day it was obvious the best boats ever were Montgomery's.The rest of my research only drove that point further home.
