St1000 or st2000 auto pilot

I have had both of these auto pilots. The 1000 does not have the poundage of push, speed and length of push as the 2000. I used mine on a Cat 27 and broke parts inside, but fixed free by Raymarine. 2 year warranty. I used it everytime I sailed, which was probably 200 days the first year. Remote is a separate part. $320. Pricey but I loved it. Both can do seatalk etc. i used the 2000 on a Ranger 28 and with the spade rudder, there was a good pull on the tiller. Remembering how lite the pressure on the tiller on my M17 was, I would change how to mount it. Instructions say to put the pin in the tiller 18 inches from pivot point. I would play with it before drilling and could get it down to 12 inches. The 2000 would work faster and further throws. It has more than enough strength to toss the outboard rudder around. Plus it put the mount closer to the stern, leaving more space for walk abouts. Mack Warner Sent from my iPad

How much I can expect to negotiate the price for a new M17

Hello all. This is my first posting as an MSOG member. I’ve been mostly lake sailing for the past 5 years on my Columbia 23, which I recently sold. It was a beautiful boat but I wanted to down size and get something newer. After researching every boat I could think of I really think the M17 is the boat for me. But I haven’t seen any for sale in my area of Phoenix, or within 300 miles for that matter. So I am now considering purchasing a new one, which leads me to my first question. Does anyone know how much I should expect to pay for a new boat? I know the approximate list price but I don’t know how much I can expect to negotiate the price. Thanks, Ron

Thanks to all that responded to my question on close to the wind . I'm going to have to look into the rake of the mast as Jerry said , once I'm sure that it's the boats rigging , not the sailors fault . Jeff my jib sheets run though a deck mounted bullseye fairleads , do you have a track or something lik it to be able to move yor fairleads on yor M15 ? Once again thanks for the advice KLaas
