I see on the web site that she has been rescued by new owners in Hawaii and I would love to correspond with them. Montgomery Sailboats are in high demand

And are built with top-notch quality. There is nothing in the market place faster, better built and as good looking as a Montgomery Sailboat. I don't run a factory; I run a very small boatshop. I built to order on a boat by boat basis. I do a lot of custom work when asked. Bronze ports, Stainless ports, extra ballast, Custom electrical systems, Idasailor rudders, anchoring packages..etc. This work is labor intensive. Quality takes time. I have 3 employees. These people are highly experienced in Laminating, construction, assembly and finish. Woodworking and other skills result in a absolutely beautiful sailing vessel. I use the best sails the best rigging, the best custom stainless fasteners..and yes....(laughing) the best cushions. This last 15 months have been EXTREMELY busy; hiring new help was impossible because all the good people are gone. We had a tremendous BACKLOG and we caught a break only when Pacific Seacraft employees (let go) began filtering into our shop looking for work. We did add some additional crew in the Laminating Shop and because of that we are caught up. Pacific Seacrafts Bankruptcy was good for us. Bad for the dozens of good people who are out of work. The FIRST question of anyone buying a new boat should be 'How is the construction quality'? First and foremost that is the most important issue. I can say that everyone has experienced and will continue to experience a BACKLOG of orders; especially if the boat is as popular as a Montgomery Sailboat. When we had an 8 month backlog and I actually turned down 2 M_17 orders so we could catch our breath. It is impossible to work any harder or any faster. Now that were caught up we can get back to our normal 50-70 days (depending on model and options). Also custom work really adds to the production time. One beautiful M_17 we did we cut the V berth out of and installed an oval bulkhead, custom shelves and inline potti area; with 4 bronze ports she is an amazing boat, but custom work takes time. Expect delays if you go radical on the interior. (I think BONES has a photo of that one...) We are really one of the only builders that entertain changes and options to satisfy the customer. This new Passagemaker M_17 were building (and installing a windvane on tomorrow) is going to be amazing. Other actual boat factories that produce boats for DEALERS (that Tod mentioned) like Precision and Compac are built on Factory Production lines for a large Dealership Network. Dealers who have these boats in stock can supply them right away. But ask for major changes on a future production boat and the wait will be many months. International Marine builds boats faster with more employees but those boats are piss poor sailers (upwind) and many arrive with a list of problems that are pathetic. That's not me. So try not to focus on the TIME factor. We can only go so fast. Hiring additional help is not an option because by the time you train someone the season gets slow and you have to lay them off. I can't do that. I have people that have been with me for 20 years; I keep us small and efficient on purpose. So be surprised if we hit the delivery time; which we do quite often. Be a little disappointed when we miss it; but get over it when you see your boat. Dozens of you know me; you've arrived to see me rig your boat, pack you up and shake your hand. (Heck...Gary Hyde even brought me a bottle of wine..!..Thanks Gary.!) One man bought a new M_15 from us and a new M_17 a year later.! The C word...Cushions. I inspect everyboat before it leaves for home. Scott's boat was leaving for the Bay Area early Friday morning; I was at the boatshop at 10:30 PM Thursday night, sleeping at the picnic table just inside the door, waiting for the cushion guy to arrive with the (late) promised cushions. He drove up, woke me up and I watched as he stacked them on the deck. We left. My man arrived at 3AM and hooked up the boat and slid the cushions inside the boat. I should have loaded them myself then I would have noticed they looked good but didn't have the required 'Squeeze' factor. Let's move on, shall we....? Fair winds Bob Eeg (949) 489-8227 Boat Builder

With more than 30 years of experience in this area and more than 1,000,000 miles traveling to distant lands, I believe my understanding is somewhat broad with regards to the question. There is truth to what Gordon says, and there is also truth to what Louis says. The question is quite complex, certainly more than can be discussed on this board (although I am willing to share info and experience if anyone is interested). The valuation of currency is critical to understanding. Long term, it is important to balance import and export as it is important to help support US companies. Free NOAA charts

I am preparing for the Port Townsend Small Boat Sailing Academy next weekend, and am doing some homework before the event. One thing I have never had to do is navigate and really read a chart, so I am learning about that with some excellent books I have purchased. It turns out that you can download very useful charts directly from NOAA as printable booklets at this link: http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/staff/BookletChart.html Some of you probably already know a great deal about this, but I just figured I would share this nice link. These things are really good, and are slightly smaller than the real thing. I have the real chart for Tomales Bay, which is chart #18643, but the booklet version is really nice. I can look at it on my iPad, or print it. My color printer does 2 sided printing, which is what the pdf is designed for, and it prints really well. Opposed pages line up. So, if you did not know about this free resource, there you are. I have downloaded a few more, including the Port Townsend chart for my upcoming trip. Check valve drain for a Montgomery 15

I am a new owner of a 1994 Montgomery 15 for about 4 months now. Right now I am trying to install a home made check valve in the cockpit drain to block water trying to enter due to wave action. This also requires a pvc pipe for the centerboard rope. I have some "G/flex 650" that I think should be ok. Any ideas on how to get the two parts mounted and fully wetted by the epoxy while keeping it from dripping excessively into the CB trunk will be appreciated. I tested the valve. It seems ok. I made it from concentric polycarbonate cylinders. Also, the seal and ball are removable or replaceable from the top as instaled. The checkvalve has an ID of 0.875 inches and could accept a rubber or cork plug. There are some project photos linked below. The present plan has a smaller rope pipe fitting than shown in the view 1. Mainsail reefing

Hello from the Texas Redneck Riviera I am new to the boat and new to the group. I have learned a great deal from the discussions and looking to learning more. After sailing my Alberg 30 for many years she became too much for me. I've done a great deal of research on smaller boats and the M15 won out , hands down. I am very fortunate I found one 3 hours from my home. I'm 64 and have MS but I'm going to keep on sailing and this boat is going to allow me to do that. Now for my question. My boat is a 2007 model. Looking around, standard equipment is mainsail reefing . There is no sign of any reefing equipment on the boom. There are two turning blocks and two cleats on the outboard end. They are for the topping lift and outhaul. No other equipment on the boom at all. The mainsail has grommets for double reef! Do you think this boat was delivered incomplete? Do you think the folks that made this boat gave a discount for taking less than standard equipment or stripped down? I'm confused at least. Can anyone help me figure this out. Thanks, Tim Erwin. I've done numerous weddings at this house in Duck. The new pier we took you to last time you were here. lots of sea foam. I don't know where this was taken but it's pretty cool. This is in front of the Hilton in Kitty Hawk looking south down the beach road. Timmy, you and I ran this stretch together. about 3 feet deep here. The beach road in Kitty Hawk about mile post 4 lots of damage. I don't know how this house continues to survive. Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills. The pier didn't make it today.all crumpled up. This is the temporary bridge they built after last August's hurricane, down in Pea Island before you get to the village where Kim's folks use to have their beach house. The beach road, kitty hawk. Sand Dunes breached. Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills. The pieces of bridge you see beyond this reporter have since disappeared this afternoon. This McDonald's in Virginia Beach. not too much more and the house is going in. down in Rodanthe. This house is now in the Atlantic. I heard the one on the right is gone now, too. the main highway in Kitty Hawk with sea water all the way across this afternoon. It is now closed because it became too deep, and of course the beach road is closed, so the north and south of the island are closed off to each other for the time being. fun. Favorite breakfast spot still intact. Nags Head Pier. No beach. Kitty Hawk big surf this morning. Yikes. No virus found in this message.
