Dave, You must have me confused with someone else on number 3 on your list. Actually, I just installed a new impellor on my 6hp Suzuki yesterday. It wasn't too bad of a project and the original was still in excellent condition. My motor starts easier than yours for some reason. Typically on the second pull, even after sitting all winter. Occasionally it will take more pulls. Also I am able to lock the motor in the straight position by tightening the thumb screw on the back of the motor. It does have to be quite tight to hold, though. Perhaps yours got some grease in there? My name is Roger . I have just become a subscriber having purchased a M17 late last year. I am retired, based in Victoria BC, and plan to sail locally around the Gulf Islands . My boat is in good order and is one with the cut out in the transom . The year of manufacture is 1979. I have been interested to see the various letters and questions and answers and will be posting a question later today for comment. I hope to contribute as much as I can to the group discussions and I look forward to getting my boat in the water and sailing in early March. Best wishes Roger

Would someone be kind enough to provide detailed instructions on how to replace the centerboard pennant? How long is the pennant and at point do you tie in the stopper knot?, how long and what size is the pennant?, and any and all information that will assist an incompetent (me) in this process. I believe our boats have the same centerboard setup. When we purchase our 17 in 2005 the centerboard was damaged beyond repair and had to be replaced. At that same time I also replaced the pennant. Our trailer allowed room for the centerboard to drop without hitting the trailer but even so this wasn't nearly enough drop of the CB low enough to get to the pennant. I had to raise the boat off the trailer another 12' or so, and remove the CB pivot pin, in order to get the CB down low enough to access the pennant. This was 7 years ago so my memory may be a little rusty, somewhere I believe I have pictures of the process. I remember raising the boat and supporting it on blocks in order to get the CB to drop low enough to replace it as well as access the pennant. Randy G. Mahalo Plenty for your responses and info. My M17 is still on the trailer as I overhaul her. Actually my new business name is “KEELHAULIN’” for you Chip Foose fans out there! In any case, her tattoo is right at eye level and appears as such: MMPI (space) 7422H091. So while she may not be a HO, nor a virgin, at least we know she’s over 21! She came to me with “LATER” fading on her transom, which my wife still likes. I much prefer the concept, and sound, of “SOONER!” What’s it gonna be? Howzit? MMPI 7422HO91 is my new love; but she’s been more neglected than abused. Not quite a “barn find” she sat in the weeds for a good 6 years, long enough under a mango tree to start a couple of mango trees in the cockpit, rooting under the teak grate! Might she be that notorious vessel who sailed here from there? I haven’t yet heard from another, at least not from Craigslist queries. I acquired her on a “new” trailer but have paper to trace her back to first sale & shipping from a dealer in Sacramento, CA to Honolulu, HI in ‘92. May I ask: (as a professional boatbuilder) Is there more to be gleaned from her tattoo beyond her age? She’s pretty much undamaged forward of the 3-pintle rudder. Given the inevitability of C/B bumpers in our neighborhood, I’m prompted to modify the mahogany rudder remnant. Might even be a prize for the best “kick-up” suggestion! I'm close to buying a nice M15 but it has no bow pulpit. Current owner says it was not there when he purchased boat in 2006. I would like to have the pulpit, so need to know where I could purchase one and what cost might I face? Jeff Johnston
