Griselda's new dinghy!

I got the 9' dinghy! Here are some photos: http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h63/jiminypricket/dinghy/ The only thing missing is a gooseneck pin, and one of the oars is broken. I don't think the mast or sail are original, but they work. The sail bag is really interesting. In the picture you can see the current design, it says "20 SPIN". But in faded letters underneath the design, it reads "M17 Genoa"...which of course makes me very curious about the history of the bag and the boat in general. Don Rypinski owned it before the guy I got it from. Don created "Back Bay Boatworks" and also worked with Richard Arthur (of Arthur Marine) on the Balboa 20s, so he was around Lyle Hess and Jerry Montgomery at the time the dinghy was built. If anyone knows more about the boat (like, what model is it, besides "9"? or "A 9"?), please let me know. In the future I plan to match the paint with Griselda (black bottom, green hull, gold boot and cove stripe, gold letters). I want to come up with a good name but am not sure what... I thought about something like "Doughter" (middle English for "Daughter") because it's being "reunited" with Griselda (in the story, Griselda's husband takes her children away, but later brings them back). But "Doughter" seems like a weird name...

Bill, A latch end with a wire or looped line at the sail clew allows for very easy jibing with the pole connected while switching tacks. GO

M15 Standing Rigging from hell

Hello all, hoping to get collective wisdom from the group on this topic: I have a turnbuckle on my forestay, but I also have a fixed chain adjuster (same as the type as are also found on port and starboard M15 chainplates) on my forward chainplate. The end of the turnbuckle is pinned to the first available bottom hole of the chainplate, and with the turnbuckle collapsed to it's shortest length, the whole assembly is still too long and I have too much rake aft. Is there anything wrong or dangerous with just removing the adjuster from the forward chainplate, and just pinning the end of the turnbuckle right to the chainplate? Doing that would shorten the total forestay length by about 1", which may make a significant difference. Ideas welcome. Sooner or later I'll bite the bullet and start over with the standing rigging but when all is said and done, the wire is in decent shape, it's just the lengths that are driving me buggy. Jerry, Thanks for that offer. Absolutely. A tune-up clinic at Folsom would be excellent! By the way I sent an email out last week to organize an outing on Folsom this past Sunday. We had winds of 10-12 mph on the lake with gusts to 15 and a very spirited sail. Folsom gets to be "Bob 'n Bake" in the summer so this is the season. I sent the "invite" out to about 10 sailors, but only myself and one other boat showed up. Did you get the email? If not can you check your email spam filter to see if I was blocked? Dave: Thanks for the tip and the link. I actually have the page in front of me with the pictures of the marine eye, aircraft fork, turnbuckle stud, and Nicopress eye. My forestay turnbuckle actually has a swivel connector on both ends for attaching with clevis pin. See you in Renton in a few weeks! Off to Boca Raton FL for a week of training on Monday. Wish it were to go sailing in the intracoastal but oh well... Thx Neil

Help - Monty folk - I am asking if anyone knows of boat rentals in the Islip NY or Great South Bay area? My father-in-law is 91 and he sold his Alerion Express last year so he is without boat in NY. It is my desire to find a small keelboat/daysailer for 1/2 or day rental so we can go sail this summer when I visit. Please contact me if anyone has any ideas or leads. I know the internet search thing, but I used to operate rental boats, and not all rentals are 'equal' . We are looking for a well maintained boat. Thank You very much in advance. Gary H.
