The truck carrying Dulcibella, my shiny new Montgomery 17, reached Gainesville (FL) late this afternoon. Boat and trailer are in excellent condition. We started getting compliments even as the unloading proceeded in a mall parking lot. At home, we found she is just a hair too large for the garage. On to Plan B for storage... Now for some boat rigging. The mast/boom package was nicely bubble wrapped, so tomorrow will be like an early Christmas, with presents to open. Thanks, Montgomery Boats! David Fann M17 Dulcibella

My local home improvement center has two or three grades of indoor/outdoor carpet, with several colors in each grade. Home centers are generally cheaper than marine dealers. They also carry stainless steel staples for a staple gun, which are about three times the price of regular staples. It is my understanding that the nasty chemicals used in treated lumber are intended to repulse the little critters that attempt to dine upon it, as opposed to making the lumber water resistant. The glue they sell for outdoor carpet is claimed to waterproof bunk boards in a trailer application. Of course, any uncarpeted areas could be coated with some sort of water resistant compound. Doug and Tod, I've replaced the bunk boards twice on my trailer. I used untreated pine, treated pine and even used redwood once. Right now I have an untreated bunk on the port side and a treated one on the starboard, and can't tell a difference. Using the old board as a template, I drilled the new boltholes and secured them to the posts. The curve comes from the weight of the boat so there wasn't a need to put one in. There was a discussion awhile back about the proper length of the bunk boards, something to do with pressure on the hull and seating the boards on the right lapstrake, but I don't remember anything more about it. M15 trailer bunkboard replacement

Well, my one of my bunk boards has compressed about 1/2 inch and I guess it is time to replace them. I looked in the archives but didn't find anything. Do you have to get the boards to twist before you mount them or do you let them take a natural set with the M15 siting on them for a few days? Scott, Thank you for your reply to my inquirey, I will call Bob Monday and see if he will sell me the stern rail and mast crutch directly but I may find that I can have Svendsen's Metal Works in Alameda build both of them and save the shipping. I live over by Santa Rosa CA. and get into Alamenda quite frequently. Are we neighbors of sorts? and you said we, is there a lot of M-15 and M-17 owners here in the Bay area? The 135 fits my 1991 perfectly, but others on this list have indicated that it is slightly too big/tight on earlier models (I am not sure exactly when the liner pan was changed). Unfortunately, the head supplied as OEM on earlier boats is no longer available. The good news is that a few people with earlier boats have taken a hair dryer/heat gun to the Thetford 135 and "changed the part number a little" to make it fit (heated the plastic carefully, and then immediately placed in the pan to conform while the plastic was hot and pliable).
