I just checked my inbox after 3 months and nothing hats related, so either this list has unofficially died, or i have been taken off of it....this e-mail is a test to see which one is the case. i found a LIVE ivan show somebody gave me about 7 years ago which was taped at the Toronto Warehouse on 12/15/97.......the sound quality is terrible and the set list is the same as the live CD bootleg going around but I guess could be a collector's item for somebody....I don't want it anymore, so if somebody wants it they can have it....just e-mail me and we'll work out the details.... Did MWH ever perform live after their new CD release?? Are they officially broken up now for good? And one more question for you music guys out there.....it just seems like the live IVAN after "The SPell" and the NHBTP album was somewhat devoid of personality....There are some tracks on NHBTP I like.....but not many.....and THE SPELL I love!! But the live concerts are just very cheesy and synth driven to the point where the background is simply a loop and it sounds as if no real musicians are present!!! WHY IS THIS???? What happened to the guys who put together that ABSOULTELY AMAZING Le SPectrum show in 1985?? If they know they can do stuff like that....why don't they do it more??!! Is it me? It seems like that was the pinnacle everything else after that was kind of 1/2 throw together last minute. I would love to hear back from somebody in the music biz why this is the case. Thank you. -Collin from Roseland, NJ. (Previously Ithaca and Previously Savannah)

its still here... i've been busy doing music and copying videos...};-)

not heard that they did. even if they played next door i wouldn't have gone to see 'em as that last album was one cd too many.

its easy to do. the DJ guy has a synth workstation and not many ideas so he just programs loops & ivan sings. its not too hard to take a decent setup live these days - i have a 16u flight case that we use live thats packed full of electronics - we certainly don't sound like we're using boring loops... i really think its down to the effort the people want to put in. notice i said 'people' and not 'musicians'. anyone can fiddle with today's workstations but not many can write decent music. there is a huge difference!

probably.

see above. also, taking gear live costs money (ie transport) and smaller beat boxes can easily fit into small cases. problem is that the decent sound is compromised by doing this, and today most folks don't give a monkeys anyway. cd sales have plummeted so no-one is making money... vicious circle. }:-) email : moose@pigpendigital.com music sites : http://www.pigpendigital.com http://www.alaskahighway.com http://www.mishikawa.com

I thought that myself a few times. I guess back then, using all those synths and spending the time making music was in vogue while today, anyone can be the entire band with just a computer. I don't think NHBTP was rushed. I think perhaps their idea of what the music should sound like was different. Plus, it was made by just 2 of the members and not 4 plus a producer. As for the live show, I'm assuming it was just cheaper to have the 1 synth and the female backup singer. moose wrote:

That's true. I made my own remix cd --a concept like the Orb and Pink Floyd's the Wall and even Pop Goes the world where I combined music with field recordings. BOY DID IT COME OUT BAD! :)

hahaha... welcome to the world of experimental music! i've amassed quiet a studio over the years and often just sit in here making noises - hours of fun. its also quite interesting seeing how other people, usually just my musician friends, use the facility. anyways, we've written, recorded & mastered 1 whole album in here ("attitudes of a difficult mind" by alaska highway) plus have recorded music for several tv spots, edited a few albums and mastered a few more... its really nice to be able to work all day on stuff i enjoy }:-) email : moose@pigpendigital.com music sites : http://www.pigpendigital.com http://www.alaskahighway.com http://www.mishikawa.com

I found it strange how what I heard in the headphones while I made the tracks ended up sounding different once on cd.

mixing on headphones is a big mistake as they usually colour the material too much. you should always mix on proper speakers, usually not commercial hifi speakers but flat-as-pancakes monitors... these don't colour the audio in any way so you actually *hear* what is going on. also, simply mixing a track is not enough - this is why mastering engineers are still employed!! you'd need to add compression to smooth the audio peaks out, equalisation to make stuff sound acceptable etc... its all complicated stuff! ...and exactly why i have a job! };-) email : moose@pigpendigital.com music sites : http://www.pigpendigital.com http://www.alaskahighway.com http://www.mishikawa.com

i use powered genelec 1029s with a bass bin and powered mackie 824's in the studio. then, for testing the mix, i have a decent linn hifi with kef hifi speakers in the front room & a 'consumer' $3k sony system in the back. if you do have to use headphones then get a decent pair by sennheiser or beyerdynamic - they make 'phones specifically for studio accuracy... but speakers/monitors are better. }:-) email : moose@pigpendigital.com music sites : http://www.pigpendigital.com http://www.alaskahighway.com http://www.mishikawa.com
