Tick. WFL [ While studying for A- & S-level exams (college entrance), I signed up for a course in Russian literature. Our teacher (one F. G. Gregory) was noteworthy, besides for his possession of a physique sufficiently impressive to render the negotiation of an average classroom doorway a nontrivial sofa problem, for his habit of returning every assignment marked with a solitary tick. Eventually I became sufficiently motivated by the lack of feedback to submit a 20-page critique of Turgenev's "Father and Sons", in a last-ditch attempt to elicit some informative response, but to no avail: back it came with a tick. Then at the last moment after every submission had been returned, he glanced over at me at said "Of course, you wouldn't be expected to write at that length in an examination."
