Re: [math-fun] Nima Arkani-Hamed complaint transmission
Perhaps I don't know enough physics, but I find Nima's lectures a lot more comprehensible than those of most physicists. I'm not aware of any of this generation of physicists who have Feynmann's gift of both accuracy & clarity of exposition. That having been said, I haven't yet had a chance to look at this particular video of Nima's, but I'm looking forward to it. At 12:36 PM 9/19/2013, Warren D Smith wrote:

I'd nominate John Baez.

The mathematical physicist John Baez is in his early 50s. His first cousin Joan, the musician, is twenty years his senior. On Thu, Sep 19, 2013 at 2:59 PM, Cordwell, William R <wrcordw@sandia.gov> wrote:

My teenage daughter is closer in age to Nima Arkani-Hamed than is Joan Baez. My daughter probably doesn't know who Joan Baez is, but one of her favorite books is "Surely You are Joking...". Was Feynman known for his clear explanations from an early point, or did that come later? -----Original Message----- From: math-fun-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:math-fun-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Mike Stay Sent: Thursday, September 19, 2013 3:11 PM To: math-fun Subject: Re: [math-fun] [EXTERNAL] Re: Nima Arkani-Hamed complaint transmission The mathematical physicist John Baez is in his early 50s. In my experience, Feynman's lectures were compelling and intuitive at every point while you sat there. I'd challenge anyone to recreate them half an hour after leaving, however. I don't know why that is -- perhaps I'm simply not smart enough to recreate his magic, but they failed as education for me. Too fast, perhaps. Marvelous as entertainment.
