Didn't the ancient Greeks seriously take something like this position? Which reminds me to ask: How did those guys actually perform divisions? Was there some long-division like algorithm used in antiquity, or did they do something else? Of course a classical author might just state the result without showing the work, but there must be some leftover scraps of papyrus or something lying around...
