Maybe you'd like to run preexisting software rather than build everything from scratch.
I assume for that it would be sufficient to have a Pentium programmed in your FPGA as the default. However, some things like floating point that need to be very fast may also be a good fraction of the legacy processor so that once you have those, there is no reason not to include the whole thing. Whit
