By "God" I mean the traditional Christian Omnigod, which is omnipotent, omniscient, omnibenevolent, omnipresent, infinite, eternal, personal, etc., etc., (all of which properties need to be defined and proved separately because they are independent of each other).
They're also independent of scripture, since the "omnis" only appear in the various creeds--except for one verse in Revelation 19:6, where "omnipotent" is a rendering of the Greek "pantokratos", which everywhere else gets rendered as "almighty"; in the Septuagint, this word corresponds to the Hebrew "shadday" from "shadd", meaning "to deal violently with, despoil, devastate, ruin, destroy, spoil". So "omnipotent" in scripture only means God has the power to destroy everything. In Psalms 147, it says God's understanding is "infinite", but the same word is translated as "innumerable" creeping things in Ps 104. The other places where God is said to have all knowledge is in respect to the hearts of men. -- Mike Stay - metaweta@gmail.com http://math.ucr.edu/~mike http://reperiendi.wordpress.com
