Saari's objection seems to be based on the existence of atypical special star configurations which violate "star soup" approximation. But many computer simulations of galaxies have been done with randomized initial conditions. They duplicate reality best when they include dark matter. Saari's objection has no force about such simulations. If anybody can provide a pdf of Saari's paper, please email it to me warren.wds AT gmail.com . I personally think there are valid grounds to worry about and be skeptical about dark matter, but Saari's grounds almost certainly have no relevance to reality. Nevertheless, he is correct that the rigorous foundations for this and many other continuum approximations in physics, are lacking.
