PUZZLE: What characterizes the following sequence, of which the first 25 terms are listed? 5, 8, 11, 13, 14, 17, 18, 20, 23, 25, 26, 28, 29, 32, 33, 35, 38, 39, 41, 43, 44, 46, 47, 48, 50, ... Note: This is most naturally just a certain (infinite) subset of the positive integers, which has been arranged in numerical order. --Dan

PUZZLE: What characterizes this (infinite) sequence, the first few terms of which are as follows: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 18, 20, 23, 25, 26, 28, 29, 32, 33, 38, 39, 41, 43, 46, 48, 50, ... ? (Perhaps it's better to describe this as a subset of the positive integers which has been put in ascending order.) --Dan

I've disconnected the forwarding from the old Math-Fun address at Arizona to the new list at Xmission. This should help with the recent spam problems. (Xmission recently "upgraded" the mailing list software, but apparently lost the spam filtering feature from forwarded mailing lists.) The posting address is math-fun(a)mailman.xmission.com; the old Arizona address will forward to me (only). I'm discarding spam complaints that were sent to the group; we don't need meta-spam. Complain to me if you must, or if you have something helpful to say. --- The new results on prime gaps are nice, but I think "major step on the twin prime problem" is an exaggeration.
